Friends of Kellett School Inc. (FOKS), incorporated 2005 is a not-for-profit in the US. Its mission is to bring together Old Kellettonians based in the US and current parents with US passports, to network, reminisce, support one another, as well as support and stay connected to the School. FOKS enables US tax-payers to make a tax-exempt donation to the Kellett Foundation, which houses the AMD Fund for bursaries & Outreach, as well as K2 for curriculum enhancements.
The current Chair of FOKS is Aaron Goach, a Year 13 and Old Kellettonian (OK2010-2024) parent. The Board includes former Kellett parents, current parents and former students.
Bursary students are talented young people who are currently living below the poverty line in Hong Kong. A Kellett education would have a transformational impact on their life path and likely change the options and aspirations for their family in generations to come. To date, 14 young people have benefitted from a Kellett bursary, with 9 currently at Kellett. With sufficient funding, Kellett hopes to continue to offer two entrance bursaries a year to talented local students.
Kellett Outreach offers enrichment sessions for children aged 6-14 who are living below the poverty line in Hong Kong. Thanks to donations from the Kellett community, Outreach has blossomed to over 140 children benefitting from the termtime Saturday sessions. Outreach improves life chances for these children by fostering a love of learning, enhancing confidence and well-being, as well as boosting core knowledge and skills. Outreach also enables us to identify children suitable to join Kellett on a full entrance Bursary.
K² (pronounced K squared) supercharges the education and learning experiences for Kellett students. Thanks to additional funding through K², staff can pitch ideas on how they could boost learning and practical experiences with some additional financial support. A laser engraver, workshops led by renowned environmentalist Craig Leeson, an innovation hub kit are just some of the projects that have happened, thanks to K².
Things are improving at PFL as we’re embarking on a long-awaited refurbishment. Much will improve across the School, but to the delight of our current and former families, much will also remain the same as the quirky spaces of PFL are so loved by our community. As part of the improvements, we are hoping to enhance the Banyan Tree Garden. The potential for the Garden is immense. We now have the opportunity to create a multi-functional learning space on our doorstep. From building bug hotels to sensory play, live music performances and educational water play, every aspect of the Garden will significantly enhance our curriculum and student wellbeing while bringing the benefits of Outdoor learning to our doorstep.
