Outreach provides fun Saturday academic and enrichment sessions for around 100 children aged 6 to 14 years old living below the poverty line. Children are referred to Outreach by various NGOs in Hong Kong.
Outreach comprises of sessions in core subjects such as English and Mathematics, complemented by arts and sporting activities, delivered by Kellett School staff and partner organisations, with the support of student volunteers.
All children attending Outreach are provided with breakfast and lunch, transport to and from School, as well as a uniform, and educational resources to ensure they can fully engage in the sessions and access their potential.
Outreach enables us to identify children suitable to join the school fulltime on an Entrance Bursary.
Let one of our volunteer students show you round a typical day at Outreach.
At Kellett, we place great importance on role modelling empathy and compassion to our students. Each weekend our staff, with help from volunteer students, bring joy to children living below the poverty line at Outreach. Watch the video to find out how.
"There are a lot of things the most vulnerable kids in our society need– food, shelter, clothing, medical services. But the one most likely to affect their lives is access to education. Education has not only the power to change a child live today but also to change his future."
Lourdes, Kellett Parents Committee
"Outreach helps my family by providing free knowledge and resources for my child, eliminating the need for us to pay for it. This is especially beneficial for families like ours who are financially constrained and have no means of livelihood.”
Parent (Asylum-seekers are not permitted to work)
"I first joined Outreach to fulfil my service hours for HKAYP. I had no clue what to expect but I ended up falling in love with it and forming some amazing friendships with the students. Now, I look forward to waking up at the crack of dawn on a Saturday. The environment is just so welcoming, and it is super easy to get involved and make a difference. It has become a real highlight of my week."
